A guide to checking care

# A care checklist for Fountain Hills

Imagine comparing a room visit with an online service. Put the same questions to each. Leave a box blank until the answer makes sense to you.

[Start with who will assess you](#credentials)

## Keep the questions close.

Tick boxes here or print this sheet from your browser. A blank box is something to ask about.

Before the visit

## Who will assess you?

A service has a friendly name. Ask who will assess your health: the clinician. Get their full name and licence type before looking them up.

I know the clinician’s name and licence type.

A licence is a state board’s permission to practise. Use the board that covers the clinician’s role. For another role, ask which board holds its record.

### MD · Medical doctor

Arizona’s Medical Board shows an MD doctor’s licence and public board orders, its written decisions about the doctor (October 3, 2026).

Look for any limits on the licence or penalties for problems with care or conduct.

[Medical Board · MD search](https://www.azmd.gov/DoctorSearch/DoctorSearch)

### DO · Medical doctor

For Arizona doctors whose title is DO, a different board provides the licence search (October 3, 2026).

If the doctor’s title is DO, use this search rather than the MD search.

[Arizona · DO doctor search](https://azdo.gov/find-your-do)

### NP · Nurse practitioner

Check a nurse practitioner’s certificate for that role as well as their nursing licence, using Arizona’s Nursing Board (October 3, 2026).

An Arizona nurse practitioner can assess your health and make care decisions (October 3, 2026).

Prescribing medicine also needs the Nursing Board’s permission and must fit the nurse’s training.

Ask whether that permission covers this medicine and your care.

### PA · Physician assistant

Arizona’s physician-assistant board links to searches where you can check a PA’s licence (October 3, 2026).

I know the clinician can treat me while I am in Arizona.

A video visit is one way to receive telehealth: care given when the patient and clinician are apart.

Ask which licence or special permission allows the clinician to treat you while you are in Arizona.

Arizona’s telehealth registration is special permission for some clinicians licensed elsewhere to treat patients in the state remotely (October 3, 2026).

This registration allows remote care under Arizona’s requirements; it is not a full Arizona licence.

For this route, the clinician needs a licence in another state with no current restrictions and must register with the matching Arizona board.

They also need insurance for claims about their care and must meet Arizona’s rules on past licence problems and current care.

Ask that Arizona board to confirm the registration and whether it covers the proposed visit.

During the visit

## Is there a real assessment?

You have a goal in mind. Ask how the clinician will work out whether a treatment fits that goal and your health.

The visit leaves room for my own questions.

Bring your medicine list and past care notes. Ask what else the clinician needs to know.

National medical-board advice says choosing a drug from a website’s treatment list, without a real health assessment, is not proper care (September 26, 2026).

The same advice says patients need a way to put follow-up questions to their clinician.

That advice is not itself a law; each state’s own rules decide what its medical board can require.

Ask how the clinician will assess your health before deciding about medicine.

I have the exact medicine name and its approval status.

FDA means Food and Drug Administration.

To approve a drug for a particular use, FDA reviews it and finds that it works and is safe enough for that use.

A compounded medicine is prepared to order.

Ask which kind is being offered. What need would a made-to-order drug meet?

A brand-name drug’s approved copy is called a generic.

FDA says it is misleading to describe a compounded drug as a generic or claim it matches an approved drug (September 26, 2026).

Before medicine arrives

## Who makes it and supplies it?

A service describes the treatment. Ask it to name the pharmacy behind the medicine, rather than stopping at the service’s name.

I can name the pharmacy and check its permit.

An out-of-state pharmacy needs Arizona’s pharmacy permit to ship medicine into the state (October 3, 2026).

The pharmacy also needs the required permission from its home state.

Ask for its name before paying. Check the permit with Arizona’s Pharmacy Board and ask how to reach a pharmacist.

FDA’s pharmacy-check page links to each state’s online pharmacy licence search (September 17, 2026).

After the visit

## Who answers the next question?

A question comes to mind after the conversation ends. Ask how to reach the clinician and how replies work.

I know who replies and how later care works.

FDA lists having no doctor for later questions as a telehealth warning sign (September 17, 2026).

Medical-board advice says the clinician must arrange required tests or refer you to a person who can arrange them (September 17, 2026).

When a hands-on exam is needed, the guidance also calls for care in person.

Ask when the plan will be reviewed and how test results will be shared.

Before paying

## What is the whole bill?

The offer has an eye-catching price. Now ask what comes after that offer and what happens if you leave.

I have the full cost and the terms for leaving.

What covers the visit, tests and medicine?

Are delivery and follow-up charged on top?

What changes when the offer ends?

Can the membership be stopped, and how?

What does my plan cover for this exact drug and use?

Pause the comparison

## Which answers are red flags?

A page talks about approval but skips the details. Look at the exact claim before treating it as proof.

### No prescription needed

Federal rules are broken when prescription medicine is supplied without a valid prescription (September 26, 2026).

[US law · prescription requirement](https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?req=granuleid:USC-prelim-title21-section353&num=0&edition=prelim)

### Registration presented as approval

FDA registration means a business is on the agency’s list; it does not mean the business or its medicines are approved (September 26, 2026).

Ask about FDA approval of the exact medicine, rather than accepting the business’s registration as proof.

[FDA · approval claims](https://www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer-updates/it-really-fda-approved)

### Research-only products sold as medicine

A “for research purposes” label, like a label reading “not for human consumption”, marks a study product rather than something for people to take.

FDA warns that weight-loss drugs sold for people with these labels have unknown quality and may cause harm (September 26, 2026).

[FDA · research labels](https://www.fda.gov/drugs/drug-alerts-and-statements/fdas-concerns-unapproved-glp-1-drugs-used-weight-loss)

Loose ends

## What does a record really prove?

### Does a licence page with no listed problems tell the whole story?

Arizona limits how long some board decisions appear online, as of October 6, 2026.

These include decisions about licence limits or other penalties.

Even when an online record lists no problems, past complaints or board decisions may still exist.

Ask the licensing board for older public decisions or meeting records about the clinician; some records are kept private by law.

[Arizona · access to board records](https://www.azleg.gov/ars/32/03214.htm)

### Does a pharmacy permit cover the medicine too?

An Arizona pharmacy permit allows the pharmacy to operate or ship into the state (October 3, 2026).

That permit alone does not prove that each made-to-order medicine follows state and federal law.

[Arizona · pharmacy permits](https://www.azleg.gov/ars/32/01929.htm)

A good next step starts with a clear answer.
